Remarks : In this work, our aim is to develop a low cost thermal scanning device, which can be installed at the entrance of public places. Its function is to perform automatic thermal scanning and give an alert to the concerned authority. Further, the device will also provide awareness about the infection possibility of a person.

3 Project Title : Development of Motorized Roboticmedical Assistant for Nursing, Sanitization, and House-keeping in Isolation Wards
Expected Outcome : To develop a motorized robotic vehicle fitted with robotic arm, for performing multiple tasks in the healthcare set-up dedicated for the patients suffering from highly communicable diseases such as COVID19. The proposed multipurpose robotic assistant can perform various tasks such as collection of pathological samples, acquiring physiological parameters such as temperature, delivery of food/ medicine in the isolation ward, sanitization of the isolation wards and approaching areas.
Expected Timeline :
Remarks : The system comprises a robotic arm mounted on a motorized vehicle. Such an autonomous robot may assist in nursing, delivery of food/ medicine or any other item in the isolation wards. The autonomous robot can host a thermal imaging camera to acquire and record the temperature of the admitted patients or the new patient suspected of the CARONA like infections. Further, when a person is identified corona positive, there is a need of nursing staff who can attend the patient. The autonomous robot can assist into this. The motorized robot can be programmed and remotely controlled to deliver medicine, food or any other item to the patients staying in isolation wards. The proposed robotic assistant integrated with suitable audio-visual module, can facilitate medical staff in carrying out tele-round of the isolation wards in place of physical round. This again reduces the risk of corona infection to medical personnel significantly. Such a system is supposed to serve a great assistance to medical staff who are providing treatment to corona patients and thus, enabling them to extend their capability to treat relatively larger number of patients. The proposed motorized robotic platform fitted with the robotic arm, can be customized and scaled –up for performing many other tasks which require greater complexity and higher degree of freedom. One of the very critical future extension would be automated collection of pathological samples and the proper packaging of the collected sample, without any human intervention. Further, the same autonomous robot may be reconfigured for variety of application areas that promote contactless interaction to prevent the spreading of corona virus like diseases.

4 Project Title : Deep Learning and Lungs XRay image-based Detection System for COVID19 patients at Airports and Hospitals
Expected Outcome : To quickly scan the potential Corona virus patients at the airport as soon as the passenger lands from the flight. The detection system employs the novel concept of deep learning algorithms with lungs Xray images and is nearly 90 to 93 percent precise.

Remarks : The average cost of the hardware and software system presently is Rs. 6 lacs (excluding the xray machine). This novel research idea won the 1st prize of Rs. 50,000 in the Educators and Researchers category in the Fight CORONA Online IDEAthon (27-28 March 2020) recently organized by MHRD Innovation cell & AICTE in partnership with Forge & InnovatioCuris.

9 Project Title : DEVELOPMENT OF AUTOMATED KIOSK FOR SAMPLE COLLECTION FROM PATIENTS WITH PROTECTIVE SHIELD
Expected Outcome : • To prepare automated protective shield based kiosk for health workers while collecting throat, nasal/oral swab and blood samples collection • To prepare a facility for patient and health worker using automated sanitization with disinfectants after each patient leave from the kiosk. • To prepare inbuild rapid test facility along with data base management system inside the kiosk with a protective shield
Expected Timeline : 10 months
Remarks : The main motive for the development of automated kiosk is to provide protection of health workers and collect samples as well as test it in a rapid manner. Kiosk may be movable and can be shifted to the hotspot zone for quick diagnosis. Infection should not spread with the health worker community who are the main warrior at the time of pandemic situation. This kiosk can be installed outside of the hospital so that unknown positive COVID-19 patients should not infect the hospital area at the time of sample collection. Kiosk will be more cost-effective and automated so that it may reduce the use of other PPE. Funding requirement: Rs 16 lakhs for the initial stage of research and preparation of prototype. After preparation of final product expecting that single kiosk will be within Rs 30,000 – 40,000/-

Remarks : A prototype two-way ventilator splitter was designed and developed at VNIT, using digital manufacturing technology as per the requirement from the city hospital. The prototype was handed over to IGGMC and the trials have been conducted at Surgical intensive care unit by Dr. Vaishali C. Shelgaonkar, Professor Anesthesiology. The device will help doctors to use one ventilator for two patients. It is a part of preparedness of COVID ICU. The splitters were tested in both, volume and pressure mode of ventilators, in test lungs with different compliances.

32 Project Title : SAHAYAK - A Robot to Help in Fighting the Corona virus pandemic

Remarks : Frontline workers like doctors and nurses in the hospital are at the highest risk of getting infected. To protect the frontline workers, the team of students working at ‘IvLabs’ the robotics lab of VNIT under the guidance off Dr. Shital Chiddarwar, converted a hospital trolley into an automated robot that can be wirelessly controlled. Such a robot can be used by the hospital staff to deliver food packets and medicines to the Covid-19 patients and maintain a safe distance. The robot is also equipped with a display screen, camera, and a speaker which can be used by the doctors for video communication with the patients. The robot is being currently tested at AIIMS Nagpur to serve corona virus patients.
